Project Description

The Telus Spark Science Centre

The TELUS Spark Science Centre in Calgary opened its doors to the public on October 29, 2011. In preparation for its opening, Igloo supplied and installed the Kalzip standing seam roof and walls to the main structure, and perforated screen walls surrounding the main building. With roof sheets of up to 125′ long, onsite coordination and communication was a major key to the success of this project.

Kalzips 65/400 Profile in Champagne Metallic was used on the roof and walls, while the perforated screen panels were the 65/400 profile in a custom colour matched Pewter. These perforated ‘screen panels’ allow for the night lights to shine through the screen and reflect onto the building. The colours change during the evening and are even themed during holidays which makes this building truly a spectacular evening event.

At the sloping atrium roof and bordering all windows are Alpolic Composite panels in CMX Champagne Metallic. At the front entrance bordering the Spark Sign are Alpolic Composite panels in SMX Silver Metallic. The detailed front entrance sign adds an artistic dimension to the panels demonstrating Igloo’s ability to create intricate designs within the panel layout. With the TELUS Spark Science centre aiming to complete Gold LEED status, both the Kalzip and Composite panel products provide sustainability points in achieving this goal.
